Update: this year's Amy's Ride and Run event has been changed to a VIRTUAL event on August 8, 2020. For more information, please visit the event's Facebook page (""***VIRTUAL*** 3rd Annual Amy's Ride and Run""). Help us honor Officer Amy Caprio by going on a run, walk, bike ride, or spend time with your pet and share your picture with the hashtag #BeAmy!

On May 21, 2018, Police Officer First Class Amy Sorrells Caprio #5785 of the Baltimore County Police Department in Maryland, lost her life while apprehending a burglary suspect who was operating a stolen motor vehicle. Officer Amy Caprio served with the Baltimore County Police Department for just under four years and quickly showed strong leadership qualities. This led to her serving as a field training officer, through which her police legacy will live on. Officer Amy Caprio enjoyed trail biking, playing soccer, and always made time for her family and friends. In her spare time at work, Officer Amy Caprio could be found engaged with her community schools and locating lost animals (especially dogs) to return to their families. Officer Amy Caprio graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science from Towson University, where the ‘Amy Sorrells Caprio Memorial Scholarship’ was established to assist first responders and their families with continuing their education. Officer Amy Caprio is survived by her husband, mother, father, sisters, nephews, and her beloved dog ‘Doodle’.

To honor Officer Amy Caprio and her passion for animals, ‘Amy’s Ride and Run’ was established. This family-friendly event is held annually in Kingsville, Maryland on Memorial Day and consists of a trail bike ride, a 5K trail run, and a Fun Run for children. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s event is unable to be held as originally scheduled. For those interested, this design was chosen to represent Officer Amy Caprio’s love of the outdoors, her dedication to keeping the citizens of Baltimore County safe, and her love of all animals. The words “we ride for Amy” help fulfill our promise to ensure our fallen hero is NEVER forgotten. All proceeds will go towards supporting the ongoing needs of the immediate family members of Officer Amy Sorrells Caprio and establishing a non-profit foundation to continue Officer Amy Caprio’s legacy. This non-profit foundation’s mission will be centered around providing gear to K-9 units (beginning with the Baltimore County Police Department’s K-9 Unit) and to continue the annual ‘Amy’s Ride and Run’.
